HOLDING his pink raffle tickets in his hand Ronnie Adams waited with bated breath for the all-important winning number to be read out.
With more than 4,000 tickets sold during Saturday's Big Blue Picnic on Southsea Common there were long odds of scooping a pair of FA Cup final tickets.
But the 45-year-old proved to be luckier than most as his number was drawn out.
Ronnie had bought £20 of raffle tickets to get his hands on the sought-after seats as well as raising cash for the Tom Prince Cancer Trust.
But he never thought he stood a chance of winning.
'I just can't believe I won. I knew I had as much chance as anyone but at the same time you don't think you'll win,' he said.
In a coincidence Ronnie's son Blake was in hospital with Tom Prince, a young Pompey fan who died of cancer the day before his 16th birthday.
Blake, now 15, was diagnosed with leukaemia three weeks after Tom found out he had the bone cancer osteosarcoma.
He was lucky enough to find a bone marrow match in his half-brother Ashley, 19, who was in Tom's year at school, and is now living life to the full and looking forward to the final.
Ronnie, of Collins Road, Eastney, Portsmouth, said: 'We always try to do what we can for the trust. 'Tom was such a lovely lad and the boys got on well in hospital.'
The family are season ticket holders and already have their tickets for the Cup final so are giving the winning tickets to close family members who have decided to give £100 each to the trust.
The second pair of Cup final tickets was won by Jamie Hussey who had left the picnic before the all-important draw took place.
When The News later contacted him the 25-year-old of Toronto Road, Buckland, said he was thrilled as otherwise he had faced missing Pompey's biggest game since 1939.
'I'm chuffed to bits. I managed to get tickets for the semi-final but the final was more difficult so I didn't get them,' he said.
