They're all rolling up for great scarecrow invasion
THOUSANDS of people across the south are expected to flock to Hayling Island over the next two weeks – because it has been taken over by Worzel Gummidge lookalikes.
Hundreds of scarecrows have been cropping up in the most unlikely places, including Hayling Island police station, schools and pubs.
It is all part of the annual Scarecrow Festival – which is bigger than ever with 350 on display in people's gardens and shop windows. And all are vying for the chance to steal the prestigious top prize.
A panel of six local VIPs, including Havant MP David Willetts, will judge this year's entries on Saturday. The winners will be announced at the Hayling Carnival on August 2.
On Sunday the scarecrow spirit will continue with a performance by The Mangled Wurzels on the seafront at Eastoke Corner.
