WORK has started at a long-awaited new doctor's surgery in Southsea.
Mike Hancock, MP for Portsmouth South, dug the first sod of earth with help from Dr Kevin Tutte and Dr Ian Minay.
The two-storey practice, in Carlisle Road, will provide a new home for Drs Tutte, Minay and Stone who operate from outdated premises at Somers Town Health Centre in Blackfriars Close.
Senior partner Dr Kevin Tutte hopes the move will transform healthcare provision for 5,200 registered patients.
The extra capacity will also enable the practice to take on more patients.
Dr Tutte said: 'We need space to provide more clinics and for nurses and mental health workers to come in and see patients.
'There will be three consulting rooms and two dedicated treatment rooms.'
Work is expected to finish next spring.
