This impregnable-seeming moated bastion is part of the Palmerston fortifications, a Victorian project that turned Portsmouth into one of the most strongly defended places in the world. With models, a sound and light show, and fascinating historical pictures, the story of the evolution of the defences of Portsmouth is displayed here in a late Victorian army building in the centre of the parade ground.

The Fort opens occasionally for pre booked tours and Heritage Open Days and is available for private hire. More information on (023) 9237 8291
