Decked head-to-toe in protective gear, these sailors are put through their paces as their ship goes through tough sea training.
HMS Illustrious successfully passed her four-week opera-tional sea training package which included aviation, warfare, and firefighting.

Admiral Richard Ibbotson conducted the final inspection of HMS Illustrious as the ship took part in a 'Thursday War' exercise.

Petty Officer Tom Burnham Marine Engineer Artificer said the training had been 'challenging and difficult'.

And Captain Steve Chick said: 'The training provided by Flag Officer Sea Training is second to none and they assess ships to the highest standards.

'To leave with a sound sat-isfactory assessment is an achievement and demonstrates the crew's professionalism.'

'Lusty' will now conduct more specialised training on Nato exercise Joint Warrior in the North Sea.

Later this month she will visit Liverpool and in Novem-ber will head to London to take part in Remembrance Sunday.

What do they want, a pat on the back and three cheers. The captains job was on the line, they had to succeed. Last time they carried out their operational tests they failed miserably, came back to port and had to start again and were then late on deployment.
