Portsmouth people short of cash for Christmas can apply to a local charity for help.
The Thomas King Trust offers grants of up to £25 for needy individuals and £50 for families. The charity, which is administered by Portsmouth City Council, handed out more than £3,000 last year.

Application forms are available from Age Concern shops, Portsmouth Council of Community Service, at 338 Commercial Road, and the reception desk at the Civic Offices, Guildhall Square.

The deadline for applications is Friday, October 31.

For more details, residents can call Joanne Wildsmith at the council on (023) 9283 4057.
