A NEW musical director has been welcomed at St Mary's Church, Fratton.
Robert Poyser, who has been working as assistant music director at Chelmsford Cathedral for five years, moved to Portsmouth on Monday to take up his new appointment.

He has joined a 40-strong choir at the church and becomes part of its tradition of providing training in music for choristers and other young people interested in playing musical instruments.

Mr Poyser said: 'I'm very excited, there is huge potential for lots of good things to happen at St Mary's.'

During his time at Chelmsford, Robert directed a girls' choir and the Braintree Choral Society. He performed at many concerts and services.

Portsmouth can look forward to hearing the musical director's own compositions, which have been sung at Chelmsford in recent months.
