A SERIES of events will be taking place in Portsmouth next week as part of One World Week.
From Sunday people living in the city will get a chance to explore global issues and have fun with people from different backgrounds.

This year the theme is world food issues and matters such as rising prices, changing diets, fair trade and fish s
tocks will be explored.

Sue James, one of the organisers, said: 'Nothing illustrates the interdependence of our world more than what we eat. We rely on countries around the world to supply the great variety of food we've got used to, without thinking much about the impact on the way farmers live or on the environment.

'Modern food production actually has a huge carbon footprint and isn't particularly healthy. And many of the people who grow our food are unable to feed their own children. We'd like to see people in Portsmouth exploring these issues.'

Events in Portsmouth include an exhibition about the global food crisis, Food for the World, in Portsmouth Central Library while everyone is invited to an Interfaith walk with an emphasis on global food issues on Sunday, starting from Southsea fire station, Somers Road, at 1.30pm.

For more information call Sue James on 02392 250267 or 0775 2427408.
