A man could be scarred for life after he was glassed in the face in a pub beer garden as children looked on.
The 24-year-old was left with a wound so deep it exposed a muscle in his face.
He was attacked while drinking with friends outside the Brewers Fayre pub on Clarence Pier in Southsea. Police say a row erupted between two groups of drinkers between
8.30pm and 8.45pm on Sunday.
Onlookers heard raised voices moments before a man thrust the glass into the victim's face.
Families with children fled and the man was taken to the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham where he underwent surgery to remove the glass and stitch up the 2in-long wound.
Detective Constable Katie Holland, from Portsmouth CID, said: 'It is a nasty injury. He could be permanently scarred.
'It must have frightened people. The area outside the pub was very busy.
'As soon as they heard the glass smashing, people at the pub, particularly those with children, left. They were gone before police arrived. We would like to hear from anyone who saw what happened.'
The attacker was white, in his 20s, 6ft, with short, dark hair.
