Portsmouth's new lord mayor Richard Jensen presented nine civic awards for 2008 – eight to individuals and one to a club.
>> Janice Burkinshaw – For service to Milton community and Milton Neighbourhood Forum.

>> Marie Costa – For service as chairwoman of the African Women's Forum and founder of the Africapella singing group.

>> The Gateway Club – For the club's se
rvice in providing social and sporting activities for young adults with learning difficulties.

>> Chris Jones – For her work as chairwoman of the Stamshaw and Tipner Neighbourhood Forum and as a member of the Community Centre Management Committee.

>> Günter Reichwein – For his work for the Duisburg-Portsmouth twinning link and the furtherance of friendship between the two cities.

>> Commodore David Steel – For his role maintaining morale while the long-term future of the Portsmouth Naval base was under review.

>> Dennis Tree – For his voluntary service to the maintenance of the Great Salterns recreation area.

>> Ronald Tweed – For his service to local government in Portsmouth until his retirement in 1990.

>> Diana Warren-Holland – For her work as founder and chief executive of the Portsmouth Area Rape Crisis Centre
