Older people in Portsmouth will be able to make the most of a host of opportunities to get out and about this month as the city's annual over-60s festival gets into full swing.
Highlights of the festival, which starts today and runs until Friday, October 17, include healthy walks, guided tours of Portsmouth institutions such as the Mary Rose, Portsmouth Cathedral, and the city's theatres, as well as coach trips to Weymouth and Poole in Dorset and the Isle of Wight.

Gerald Vernon-Jackson, leader of Portsmouth City Council, said: 'This is a really popular festival. Lots of people come along every year and enjoy the events and activities on offer and I hope this year we will see lots of new faces.

'There are lots of activities on offer at community centres to give people a chance to try something new – all designed with older people in mind.

'It's a great opportunity to get out, meet some new people, try some new activities and enjoy a day out or two and we hope lots of older people will make the most of it.'
