POLICE are hunting the yobs responsible after 83 acts of vandalism were recorded in Portsmouth in just 10 days.
The majority of incidents – which mainly took place in Eastney, Craneswater, Milton and Central Southsea – involved damage to vehicles caused by someone throwing a stone through the car windows.

Cars were vandalised in Ferry Road, Florence Road, Fawcett Road and Middle Street, Southsea.

Inspector Steve Hutchings said: 'This level of damage is absolutely unacceptable and it will not be tolerated.

'I would advise drivers to park their vehicles in well-lit areas and if possible on a driveway or in a garage.

'In the past 10 days there have been 83 incidents of criminal damage.

'I would like to speak to anyone who has witnessed any of these incidents, or who may know who is responsible, to come forward and speak to us so we can find the person or people responsible for this mindless behaviour.'

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sgt Attwood or Sgt Terrett at Southsea Police Station on 0845 045 4545 or call Crimestoppers, the charity, anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Is there no CCTV in these areas?

Are there no Police patrolling the streets? Or are they satisfied just to tell the people of portsmouth that such behaviour is unacceptable, which of course everyone already knows? Had the Police been patrolling the streets, as they should be doing, this level of criminal damage would have been either detected or deterred.

I would remind Chris71 that CCTV only shows a crime being committed. It does not deter or prevent crime.

I noticed yesterday that several consecutively parked cars in Highland Road in the vicinity of St. Margaret's Church had distorted or missing wing-mirrors. This has been an on-going problem in the area for some time yet it has up-to-date lighting as the lampposts have recently been replaced.

They did Henderson Road last week, my next door neighbour had her window smashed in as did scores of cars all down the road. We had a note through our door from the police mentioning that an airgun might have been used?! Unfortunately this is the sort of moronic behaviour we have come to expect from certain elements of society today. Boredom I suspect. Claim the insurance, move on and dont get stressed about it.

Perhaps they might think twice in the future if they suffered a bit of 'rough justice' at the hands of the aggrieved parties?

I'm sure it will happen sooner or later. And I will have little sympathy, having been a victim of this type of behaviour myself.
