Clutching their results, Portsmouth College couple Jenna Tonge and Ross Luke were happy at passing.
Ross,17, was chuffed with a merit in his BTEC first diploma in sport.

Ross, of Sutherland Road, Eastney, said: 'I didn't have a good start to the year. I missed lessons – probably about 15 hours.

'But I thought it would be a waste of six months to throw it away.'

Ross made it his mission to attend every lesson after that and now has his qualification.

Girlfriend Jenna, 17, was amazed she had achieved three E grades in AS religious studies, English language and psychology. She said: 'There were times I wanted to give up, I have found it really hard and thought I was going to fail.'

Jenna eventually hopes to work with children.
