Extra help is on hand for young people in Portsmouth who want to give up smoking.
Portsmouth City Primary Care Trust and the city council are working together to provide a new service.

Health professionals will be going into schools, getting involved in lesson planning, offering one-to-one support to pupils and group help.

Andy Ames, a health development worker at Portsmouth City Council, said: 'As well as working hard to educate young people about the dangers so they don't start smoking in the first place, the city council and the primary care trust are also committed to helping those young people who do smoke to give up.

'The numbers of young people smoking has been dropping for lots of reasons. However, once young people start smoking, it is important that we give them the support they need to help them to stop.

To contact the city's NHS Stop Smoking service call (023) 9236 9234.
