How the new unit will work

Experts at the Crystal Unit will work closely with the staff at the Sexual Assault Referral Centre – known as Treetops – in Cosham, to help victims.

People who have been raped or sexually assaulted can get in touch with the centre via the police, or can self-refer.

The Treetops Centre offers forensic examinations by a specialist female doctor which can be undertaken even if the police aren't involved.

Victims can also undergo a pregnancy test and obtain emergency contraception.

They can choose to undergo screening for sexually-transmitted infections and will be fully supported by highly trained staff.
