Cosham boasts an interesting mix of properties.
Cosham really came into prominence for home buyers in the latter half of the 20th Century, although between the wars there was rapid development to fulfil the need of new homes to alleviate pressure on Portsea Island.

But there are older homes still in Cosham – some late Victorian and Edwardian properties among them – such as a house called Hillview in Salisbury Road, situated close to the bustling High Street of this thriving area.
This property has the decorative architectural style of its era, which some might now regard as overly ornate.
For them, perhaps, the traditional between-the-wars terraced houses, semis, and the more grand detached villas better fulfill the ambitions of the upwardly mobile locals who grew up to aspire to live in the houses occupied by their teachers, bank managers, and the shop owners with whom they did business.
However, Cosham has not been left behind, with each generation of house builders leaving their own particular architectural mark on the area.
Opposite the entrance to Queen Alexandra Hospital on the lower Portsdown Hill slopes is an estate where all the roads are named after Scottish islands, evoking memories of home for Colin Shairp, of Town and Country Southern estate agents in nearby Drayton, who was born and brought up on the Inner Hebridean island of Luing.
“We have quite an interesting mix of properties for sale in Cosham at the moment,” explains Hilary Landey, a member of the Town and Country Southern team.
“It’s an area where it’s still possible to buy a family home for less than £300,000, while still enjoying the benefits shared with the owners of the higher end homes in the area.
“These include the good schools, superb shopping, easy commuting, and access to the countryside just over Portsdown Hill, which forms the backdrop to Cosham.”
