According to Property Detective, this area is an ideal place to settle and raise a family, with a score of 66 out of a possible 100, Fareham receives a ‘Good’ rating on family friendliness.

Whether you’re looking for an historic property with bags of personality on the Georgian High Street, or to set up in the excellent selection of family housing that has been built in the area from the post-war period to present day, there is a wealth of housing stock to choose from.

It’s child-friendly too, with good value family-sized homes near highly-rated schools.

Property prices vary depending on size and location. That said, there aren’t many places in the South where you can purchase a Georgian detached townhouse for under £500,000.  And high demand means that kind of investment is likely to be a good one.

“There’s a good demand for period property in the area because there’s not a huge amount of it,” says Jeremy Beckingsale, of local estate agents Pearsons.

Fareham represents real value for money for buyers looking for a semi-rural lifestyle, with all the convenience of town living.

Transport links to Portsmouth city centre and Southampton are easily accessible, with trains departing every 20 minutes or so from Fareham Railway Station.

That, close proximity to the motorway and a great semi-rural location can explain Fareham’s popularity with buyers.

“It’s a popular area with commuters thanks to the convenient location in relation to Portsmouth and Southampton,” says Jeremy.

“Fareham is a terrific area to bring up a family due to the proximity to the countryside, with the Meon Valley only a short car journey away.

“Easy access to the River Hamble, for boating, and the marina at Port Solent means there is a choice of leisure activities, while the mix of restaurants on the High Street and the covered shopping precinct in the town centre means there is plenty to do in Fareham itself.”
