Living in Port Solent provides a waterfront lifestyle with nothing else like it.

Many people who are now among the homebuyers in Portsmouth will have witnessed Port Solent rising into the landscape during the 1980s.

Ever since, says Colin Shairp, of Fine and Country Southern Hampshire, the homes have been in huge demand. “I have recently sold three homes in Port Solent and all have gone to buyers from outside the area, which stresses the need for an agent with a wide reach when it comes to finding buyers,” explains Colin.

The position affords a great outlook towards Portchester Castle and Portsdown Hill while the protected moorings give easy access to Portsmouth Harbour for short trips and then into The Solent past the landmark Round Tower and Still and West pub. Situated just off the M27, Port Solent has easy access for both Portsmouth and Southampton as well as Southampton international airport for travellers in a hurry.

“Properties are mostly two to three storey town houses, many with moorings, but there are also apartments in Oyster Quay, which overlooks the marina basin, for those who aspire to the lifestyle but not the space – perfect for sailing club members and weekenders, too. A mooring property means prices can be as high as £500,00 but prices generally start at £300,000 in the centre of the development according to Fine & Country.

“Nothing around here is like it,” says Colin. “Port Solent is protected by a lock so there’s no variation in tide levels, keeping vessels afloat while those in tidal basins can spend much time resting on the silt. There’s also the brilliant access to the roads and rail networks, vital for those who have to work to support the Riviera lifestyle!” And if you’re keen to pursue.
Besides the waterfront residents can also take advantage of the dozen restaurants, Odean cinema complex and David Lloyd gymnasium and as Colin sums up, “It’s truly is a wonderful life for those lucky enough to live there.”
