Alan Curbishley has been tipped as a better managerial option than Avram Grant – because he knows what is needed to survive a relegation dogfight.
Tony Gale – ex-West Ham defender and Sky Sports pundit – knows Curbishley well from their time together at Upton Park.

And Gale is convinced the former Charlton boss could Pompey out of relegation danger.

Gale said: 'Curbs wouldn't let anyone down.

'In my eyes he would be a better bet than Avram Grant because he has been in relegation battles before and knows what is required.

'I don't think Avram Grant has had any experience of a relegation battle.

'He inherited the team at Chelsea and also inherited a fantastic coach in Steve Clarke that was going for the title.

'At Portsmouth, it's a very different criteria.

'It's nothing against Avram Grant, but Curbs has been in this kind of situation before.

'In an ideal world, he would probably want a nice mid-table side.

'But management jobs at Premier League clubs do not come along very often and sometimes you have to take them when they come up.

'But I think he would have everything to gain from taking over at Pompey.

'He would be seen as a saviour if they started picking up.

'I was shocked when I heard that Paul Hart had been sacked because they looked like they had turned the corner and have been unlucky lately.'

Is he going to bring Teves with him?

Curbs has been there and done on a small budget, wouldn't be my choice but i am not making the decision.

Not sure i buy into the criteria that they need to have been in a relegation battle before? All we need is a manager that can make the team win games and can react on the touchline.

And bearing in mind the off field goings on would he walk away when are many owners are poking there noses in his business? IE: i think you should sign Zaki for example? PUP

And a small budget is what you are going to have - I doubt any of your investors will have much spare funds if they are exposed to the ME property market.

It's Avram for me, Curbishley has never achieved all that much in the Prem anyway so not sure what the support for him is really based on. Hopefully, PH will stay and work with the development of players. I was never keen on him as a Manager but a decent guy with a good track record in developing players. So, if your reading this, Come on Paul, swallow your pride and stay in football with Pompey.

No No NO -
Curbishley knows all about relegation dogfights because season after season that's all he served up at the valley. That's why the Charlton fan's ,to the surprise of everyone else, were desperate to get rid of him . He instilled a safety first culture into the club which held them back year after year. His attitude is forty points -job done .

Sort of Damocles - 40 points will do me fine.

Curbishley consistently kept Charlton in the Premier League on a limited budget, and look what has happened to them since he left! I certainly don't remember seeing the Charlton celebrating when the decided to leave.

Also he kept West Ham up when they were dead and buried. So he is exactly what we are looking for at the moment.

The support for him is probably based on the fact that he's out of work and he's done the job before so the papers put his name forward. For years The same old rubbish managers go from club to club failing time after time. Peter Reid , Mickey Adams,Sturridge, Roeder - Souness.....Yet as soon as a vacancy comes up their mates put them forward. Jobs for the boys....
