David Nugent's Pompey career has suffered another body blow after he was ruled out for up to two months.
The 23-year-old yesterday underwent an operation in a bid to solve his troublesome hernia problem.

The move comes after an injury-dogged start to the campaign in which the striker has failed to make a single appearance.

Nugent had already undergone surgery in January to repair the damage.

But ultimately it has failed to be a success.

Now the latest attempt is expected to keep him on the sidelines for up to two months.

Redknapp said: 'David's had a hernia operation which is disappointing for the lad, it really is.

'He hasn't played since the start of the season.

'The problem's come up again so he had to go to London for an operation. Let's hope it works this time.

'It's disappointing. We'll just have to see how it goes.'

Pompey have used a London specialist they have employed in the past in the hope of correcting Nugent's problem.

His last appearance was in the FA Cup final against Cardiff, when he impressed after coming on as substitute.

However, he has featured in two reserve matches this season, although the injury has flared up again.

Meanwhile, Lassana Diarra is receiving treatment from the medical staff of the French national team.

The Blues midfielder picked up a slight knee irritation in the UEFA Cup second-leg tie over Guimaraes at the end of last week.

The complaint forced him to pull out of France's World Cup qualifier in Romania, having been expected to start.

He is now in their medical team's hands and will return to Fratton Park next week.

What a waste of space this guy is, I thought Darren Anderton was bad as a sicknote but this guy easily surpasses him.

Just let him go and admit you wasted all that money on him no other team will want him.

Yeah, I suppose he deliberately got injured. Why don't you two muppets give the bloke a break and wish him a rapid recovery ? Are you both Scummers in disguise ? Get well soon, Nuge, and good luck, mate.

Kranjcar19 many thanks for the insult but get real if we hadnt spent 6 million on him we could have kept Benjani who could score goals and at least spent some time on the pitch. Benji could also play wide right which would have also saved 7 million on Utaka who obviously by his performances cant. Just think with the 13 million we saved we could then have afforded SWP who could do a job in both positions. Your thoughts on that please.

We Can Do It

Today's Vote

Is Tony Adams right to make changes to the Pompey side who beat Blackburn?
Adams should stick to the side that earned him his first win at Fratton Park
He should only change things around if there are injuries
If Campbell and Kranjcar are fit they should start
Davis deserves a starting role after his heroics against Blackburn
With a heavy fixture schedule coming up, changes are needed
