The 22-year-old has swiftly established himself as a first-team regular following his Spurs arrival.
After a Chelsea baptism of fire, he is now back in his natural defensive role and the early signs look good.
Kaboul served as the junior partner alongside thirtysomethings Campbell and Sylvain Distin in a three-man defence for the trip to Everton.
The result was a first win of the campaign as Harry Redknapp's men conjured up a superb display.
With the wing-back system likely to be here to stay, Kaboul will be a crucial figure for the Blues this season.
His instant impact has already won him the admiration of Campbell.
And the Pompey skipper has no doubts the French under-21 international can be a big hit on the south coast.
He said: 'Younes has done really well and I think he'll go far.
'He's a young lad who has not played as many games as he would like, but he's getting stronger and stronger, he's energetic and wants to play.
'With more training and more games, he'll get better and better and that's what you want to see from young players.
'Younes is definitely for the future, over the next three or four years he will become an excellent footballer.
'He's impressed me. I like his strength, his pace, his power and how he just wants to defend.
'Against Manchester United, especially, he stepped out from the back with the ball at his feet a couple of times and looked comfortable.
'Most of all, he has this great willingness to learn.
'He sounds like a guy who wants to listen and wants to learn and that's the main thing for any footballer.
'He has to keep on doing well, keep on listening, keep on improving.
'And as long as he keeps on doing that I am sure he'll go far.'
Kaboul's arrival at Fratton Park ended a two-year pursuit for Redknapp.
Spurs fans may have had doubts over his ability, but the Blues boss has no such qualms, reflected by putting him straight into his team.
And Campbell is expecting the youngster to blossom with every game.
He added: 'It takes time to settle in and he's still a young lad.
'Experience will be the making of him, it is for any player.
'You need that time out on the pitch in competitive games.
'It's the only way.
'As time goes on he'll get better and better, without a doubt, and that is great for this football club.'
