City of Portsmouth's National League ambitions remain on track after their latest Southern Women's League victory.
Dave Churcher's squad stormed to a clear win in Bromley.

That means their hopes of stepping up to national level are very much alive with two fixtures to go in senior division one.

City sit handily placed in third spot in the table as the season gathers pace.

A-string maximums were collected by Karrie Blake in the 800m (2min 11.5sec), Mandy Gault in the long jump (5m 38cm) and Annie Onions in triple jump (10.38).

Blake then went on to record a new personal best in the 400m as she finished second (56.9).

The firsts kept coming in the B string as City continued to rack the points.

Jessica Shuttleworth (long jump, high jump and triple jump), Sam Vaile (100m and 200m), Eloise Waldon-Day (javelin and shot-putt) Megan Williams (400m), Chloe Campbell (800m), Jane Georghiou (3,000m) and Amber Perry (hammer) all delivered.

Under-17 pole vaulters Sophie Millet and Emma Brigg summed up the spirit in the City ranks as they competed together for the club for the first time.

Millet dug deep to equal her personal best and finish second in the A string (2.20), while Brigg won the B string (1.70).

It was the relay events that really showed the strength City are now starting to possess.

The 4x100m team of Vaile, Williams, Gault and Rebecca Grey set the second fastest time in the club's history with their win in 49.6.

And it was a similar story for the 4x400m squad (Williams, Grey, Blake and Jayne Anscombe) as they clocked 4.05.4 – a time bettered just once 21 years ago.

City are now focussed on keeping the momentum they have built going into their next fixture in Kingston on July 26.

And with confidence bubbling, Churcher believes it can be a memorable end to their campaign.

He said: 'It was a convincing win. There's no mistaking it was a brilliant performance.

'We're very pleased with how the team did and it leaves us in a very good position.

'We are thinking about National League status and want to keep pushing to see where it takes us.

'The team spirit is extremely high and we have put together a very talented side.

'We are seeing a lot of commitment from everyone.

'The latest win was a superb team effort, and the relays showed just how strong we are.

'Now we have to keep it up for the rest of the season.'
