Sean Davis has called on Pompey to settle his Fratton Park future.
The Blues midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season and has yet to pen a new deal.

Davis (below) asked for the club for a fresh contract last season, but claims he's heard nothing since.

Despite the uncertainty, the 29-year-old has become a key performer this season, filling the void left by the departures of Sulley Mun-tari and Pedro Mendes.

But his long-term Blues future remains in the balance.

And Davis, who turned down the chance to join Celtic this summer, insists he is desperate to stay.

He said: 'It's up to the club really. I want to stay.

'I asked for a contract last season and haven't heard back since.

'All I can do is get my head down and see what happens, but I want to play here.

'I had the chance to move to Celtic but wanted to stay in the Premier League and go on a journey with Portsmouth Football Club.

'Obviously, I came to the club when they were in a desperate situation. Now they have moved on. That's progress, and I want to move with the club as well.

'Portsmouth are going in the right direction – the owner's given good backing and hopefully we can go on a run.

'I don't want to go anywhere else but at the moment I have no idea where my future will be.

'The ball's in their court, it's always been in their court.'

Davis' hard-working and tireless displays have catapulted him alongside Lassana Diarra as Pompey's favoured midfield pairing.

It's been a dramatic reversal of fortunes for a player who was dumped in the reserves at the tail-end of last season and failed to make the FA Cup squad.

Now he's emerged as a first-team regular and an important figure in the current set-up.

He added: 'As a footballer, all you can do is be professional, work hard and hopefully you'll get your chance later.

'I know it's hard when you're not playing, but I think the main quality of me is my character and never-give-in attitude.

'That's what you've got to do. No-one wants to play in the reserves, but if you do you might as well get something out of it and get your head down.

'I am just thankful that I'm now getting the chance.'

Old Pompey Blue,

Sign of the times I guess Sean. If the club is up for sale then why would the 'management' commit to renewing players contracts. You might think this should be happening, as surely it increases the value of the club if players are locked in long term, but who knows the way the club is thinking in these days of financial turmoil and meltdown. Just keep playing Sean and giving 110% as you always do and I'm sure things will work out for you.

It was pretty obvious that Harry would have preferred to keep Pedro Mendes at the club, but couldn't move Davis on. But Sean's done well this season, so fair play to him. If he keeps it up he may well get a contract extension, but over the summer it looked like he was a fringe player on big wages, therefore not worth a new deal.

Good to see Davis nailing his colours to the mast although, I'd rather be hearing Diarra proclaiming a similar commitment.

we could need him IF reports are true

I hope Davis gets his contract even if it is only a 2 year one, especially now he has established him self back in the first team. he adds a lot to the midfield with his work rate, he keeps things simple with his passing and in my opinion we have still not seen the best of him so far this season. PUP

Mr Beattie to you,

Sean has put in a few decent displays so far this season. He still does not look 100% fit to me but if he keeps performing why not give him a contract, I would imagine that he is not one of the top earners at the club which could be relevant.

no ones earned it more give him an extension as we're short in the middle and get rid of drunken nugent as we have plenty of fire power up front, anyone know how how long lauren's got left? hopefully not to long!!!

No one will be sure of staying at Pompey given the present cash crisis. Until a new owner is found (who has the funds to progress), players, manager, and supporters will have to do their best for the club and hope everything turns out OK.
We could be in the West Ham situation and be even worse off.

Justatrufan - good to see such a positive outlook - do you work in stocks & shares by any chance?

Davo is surely one of our lower paid players despite giving 100% whenever he plays and maybe second only to Diarra for an automatic place in midfield. So unless Hargreaves or Carrick will join us on a free transfer for lower wages then I think Davis should get a contract extension.

We Can Do It

Today's Vote

Is Tony Adams right to make changes to the Pompey side who beat Blackburn?
Adams should stick to the side that earned him his first win at Fratton Park
He should only change things around if there are injuries
If Campbell and Kranjcar are fit they should start
Davis deserves a starting role after his heroics against Blackburn
With a heavy fixture schedule coming up, changes are needed
