Sean Davis toasted his return from the Pompey wilderness but admitted: My Fratton future is unclear.
The rejuvenated midfielder has come back in from the cold to emerge as a key figure in Harry Redknapp's wing-back blueprint.

The 28-year-old has started both of the Blues' past two games, impressing in the process.

It's a surprise about-turn in the career of Davis, who failed to even make the bench for the FA Cup final in May.

Yet now in the final year of his contract and with no offer of an extension in the pipeline, the future looks uncertain.

And Davis, who had been a transfer window target for Celtic, concedes his football career may lie elsewhere.

He said: 'I must admit, I didn't think I'd find myself in the team as soon as I did.

'I thought I was going to move on, but nothing happened and I'm happy to still be at Portsmouth.

'I love it down here. I love the training, the fans and the players are all quality. I am just happy to get my chance and prove myself again.

'I'm just trying to work hard and get a lot of games under my belt. We will see what happens in January.

'I only have a year left on my contract so I have to start thinking about what I am going to do in the future.'

Pompey host Middles-brough this weekend looking to pick up their first Fratton Park win of the season.

They enter the clash buoyant from the Everton triumph which put behind a disappointing start to the campaign.

Davis is certain to retain his place in the centre of midfield alongside Papa Bouba Diop and Lassana Diarra.

And he is confident Redknapp's squad have the ability to enjoy another outstanding season, following their fine campaign last time out.

He added: 'There is still a lot of optimism about what we can go on and achieve this season.

'It wasn't the easiest of starts but to go away to Everton and win 3-0 was a great result.

'We can build on that and the team has a lot of confidence.

'We want to progress this year.

'We haven't got the biggest of squads to play in all the competitions, but the quality is there to progress in all four.

'This year we want to finish in that top six and I think there is no reason why we can't win the FA Cup again.'

A welcome return and good to hear him talking so positively about the squad and the ambitions of the club this year - I would certainly settle for 6th and/or FA Cup - good on yer Sean and keep up the good work!

What a breath of fresh air.
The thing with sean davis is when he plays you know he will give 110% ok his performance occasionally maybe average but i do think that could be down to consistancy !
I think he his keeping his options open as regards pompey who can blame him, what with the crazy state football is in at the moment, but it does sound he is happy to be at Pompey.
Someone who i think we should keep hold of unlike Lauren (after his recent comments) PUP

Another non story. If he continues to play as he has in the last two games I´m sure he will be given a new contract, but now is not the right time for Pompey to offer one, or Sean to sign one.

Good attitude Sean, After reading Laurens comments about not being bothered the other day refreshing to read someone who isnt in the team playing regularly slate the club and say how happy he is although im sure he will be looking for a bosman and final pay day. He is looking good and although technically not gifted works hard and certainly a good squad player. Really hope we push appiah although im sure he will go to Arsenal as can offer champs league football.

Yes fully agree. Sean dispays the kind of attitude that we fans expect from all of our players, both regulars and fringe; take note Lauren. This attitude and commitment to hard work has gotten him back in the first team because he deserves it, and the system we're playing suits his inclusion on the back of his commitment. PUP.

I am really pleased Sean Davis didn't go to Celtic, and am pleased to see him back in the first team. But he can't really say he thought he was on the move, but "nothing happened" can he!! I mean,Celtic wanted him!!

We Can Do It

Today's Vote

Is Tony Adams right to make changes to the Pompey side who beat Blackburn?
Adams should stick to the side that earned him his first win at Fratton Park
He should only change things around if there are injuries
If Campbell and Kranjcar are fit they should start
Davis deserves a starting role after his heroics against Blackburn
With a heavy fixture schedule coming up, changes are needed
