The rejuvenated midfielder has come back in from the cold to emerge as a key figure in Harry Redknapp's wing-back blueprint.
The 28-year-old has started both of the Blues' past two games, impressing in the process.
It's a surprise about-turn in the career of Davis, who failed to even make the bench for the FA Cup final in May.
Yet now in the final year of his contract and with no offer of an extension in the pipeline, the future looks uncertain.
And Davis, who had been a transfer window target for Celtic, concedes his football career may lie elsewhere.
He said: 'I must admit, I didn't think I'd find myself in the team as soon as I did.
'I thought I was going to move on, but nothing happened and I'm happy to still be at Portsmouth.
'I love it down here. I love the training, the fans and the players are all quality. I am just happy to get my chance and prove myself again.
'I'm just trying to work hard and get a lot of games under my belt. We will see what happens in January.
'I only have a year left on my contract so I have to start thinking about what I am going to do in the future.'
Pompey host Middles-brough this weekend looking to pick up their first Fratton Park win of the season.
They enter the clash buoyant from the Everton triumph which put behind a disappointing start to the campaign.
Davis is certain to retain his place in the centre of midfield alongside Papa Bouba Diop and Lassana Diarra.
And he is confident Redknapp's squad have the ability to enjoy another outstanding season, following their fine campaign last time out.
He added: 'There is still a lot of optimism about what we can go on and achieve this season.
'It wasn't the easiest of starts but to go away to Everton and win 3-0 was a great result.
'We can build on that and the team has a lot of confidence.
'We want to progress this year.
'We haven't got the biggest of squads to play in all the competitions, but the quality is there to progress in all four.
'This year we want to finish in that top six and I think there is no reason why we can't win the FA Cup again.'
