Martin Cranie is hoping his England Under-21 call-up will win him a loan deal.
The Pompey defender was in Stuart Pearce's squad last night as they took on their Slovenia counterparts at Hull's KC Stadium.

For the former Southampton prospect it was an opportunity to catch the eye as he looks to prove he has a Premier League future.

Charlton boss Alan Pardew has already watched Cranie, taking a seat in the stands for the pre-season friendly against Gosport.

So far the loan move and the chance to further his football education by getting games under his belt has yet to materialise.

But Cranie's hoping something can happen soon.

He said: 'I'm not too sure what's going on. I didn't realise Alan Pardew was even there the other night until somebody told me.

'Obviously I've heard things about going on loan to Charlton but haven't heard anything through the club on it so at the minute I'm still here and working hard to get into the team.

'Harry's not said anything, it's just rumours. People have said it's been in the papers but personally me and the gaffer haven't heard anything.

'Obviously I would like to stay here and play but we have a very strong squad so I would be happy to be loaned out to get a few more games in as I can then come back and force my way in.

'If I'm not involved in the first team I would definitely like to go out and get some experience, but I am happy here still doing my best for the club.

'Hopefully I impressed with the England under-21s and we can see what happens after that.

'Other than that, there's not a lot happening.'

I think the point is gentleman that it is very sad that a young footballer such as Cranie will not get to play for Pfc especialy now that Kaboul has arrived and can only see his future as away fron Fratton Park. I was always told that "if you are good enough then your old enough".
Also can anyone explain to me why we persist in bringing in these kids when we have no intention of playing them, it must be soul destroying for them and can do their confidence no good. As Harry said last night "football is all about confidence"

We Can Do It

Today's Vote

Is Tony Adams right to make changes to the Pompey side who beat Blackburn?
Adams should stick to the side that earned him his first win at Fratton Park
He should only change things around if there are injuries
If Campbell and Kranjcar are fit they should start
Davis deserves a starting role after his heroics against Blackburn
With a heavy fixture schedule coming up, changes are needed
