Gaydamak targets Champions League

SACHA GAYDAMAK has told boss Harry Redknapp: Take us into the Champions League.
The understated Blues owner guards his privacy, but has outlined his blueprint for Pompey in a rare interview.

And Gaydamak has set out a vision where Pompey can continue to progress and challenge Manchester United and Chelsea.

Gaydamak said: 'Next year the pressure will rise – we'll have to work on player recruitment, the infrastructure.

'If we qualify for Europe, the manager will naturally need a bigger squad and it's my job to make funds available to him.

'When I joined, we first got out of relegation.

'So now it seems realistic to enter the top four.

'To do so requires a certain structure, a mindset.

'And of course the rewards will help us to be a regular in the top four, not the top six.'

Gaydamak, who celebrated his 32nd birthday yesterday, has quietly, yet undoubtedly improved the club during his two years at the helm.

But now he's keen to break the stranglehold on the top four and he believes it is within the club's grasp to compete with the biggest clubs in the land.

Gaydamak said: 'Over a period of time, with the improvement to the football and the deals being put in place by the Premier League, it is very possible.'

The chairman, who maintains the club is not for sale, also confirmed a third party had shown recent interest in buying the club, while insisting he is not at the club to make vast sums of money.

He said: 'There was attention from a third party and maybe this was publicised. I make no money from the club but will not lose any either.'

ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVE FANS?

VICTOR MELDREW ARE YOU A POMPEY FAN IN DISGUISE? Christ makes you wonder if there is something in the water down in Pompey cause Ive never known so many moaning pillocks in all my life.....I hate to say it but looks like our fan base isnt as instrumental as we all think and certainly not the 12th man we need right now.....What if we get success at the expensive of that loyal following we had all those years even when fighting relegation we had a smile on our face and sung our hearts out.....ARE WE GOING TO TURN OUT LIKE THE MOANING SCOUSERS?

One foot in the grave fans please go support someone else or start relising what a fantastic season we have had and with the icing on the cake to come :-)

Good to here the chairman talking positive but i think to move on we do need to spend serious money & im not sure harry is the right man to spend it(utaka, nugent, mvuemba who he never uses)all wasted money. Also cant believe harry had the cheek to have a pop at us fans on motd people pay there gard earned money to watch that rubbish yesterday & are entitled to there opinion stop going on about where we were 4-5 years ago & get the players up for the final or the season will be a complete waste!

Phil Mcrutch thinks that to finish 8th the highest position in 50 years the season will be a complete waste and that Harry is not the right man for the job is just about the most ridiculous thing I have ever read. No manager anywhere gets every signing right, utaka might well be the cup winner for us with his pace, nugent has been injured for a lot of the season and mvuemba is still young and might make it. What about all the brilliant signings Harry has made Merson, Campbell, James, Distin, Defoe etc etc too many to mention

Harry has every right to complain about the tiny majority that booed they like Phil Mcrutch are not living in the real world.

Agree with ashfordblue! Can we just not stand by our club and manager and move forward, I am delighted with this season, and we have seen much worse than what we have seen in the last 4 or 5 games! come on boys.

well..... i did not boo at the game but i was dissapointed by what i saw. It is true that this has been an excellent season on paper but it does seem like we have thrown away a season to remember, we could have realistically finished 5th, which has to be a massive ahcievment. Getting to the cup final is great and as an avid fan it made my year to go to wembley and the finals gonne be great... BUT. look at the players we have the talent on display and then look at the performcnes in the cup and towards the end of the season, all very poor indeed. im sorry Harry and all unconditional fans but thsi is reality unfortunatly. i have heard some rumours flying round the mill about unrest in the ranks, players not training well, premadonna's etc. its not hard to believe when you see the performnces. GREAT season, could have been Better but good never the less. please please please win the cup and then some seriouse remodelling is needed, looks life niko will go, fair enough! get rid of diarra and muntari/utaka, i believe they are the route of the unrest.

ashfordblue and scouse i think if you read phils comments you might see he said Harry was the wrong man to spend large sums of money( he has never had this much ) not the wrong man for Pompey in general!!!!

If we'd had a bad season and been poor I could understand the criticism.

But... we've had our highest league finish for about 50 years and our first FA Cup final for 69 years - how is that failure?

Harry's got what it takes - has he not proved that a million times before already? Promotion as Champions, the Great Escape, FA Cup final...

Next season Newcastle and Tottenham will be better, Man City have the cash needed and Aston Villa and Everton will be up there again - we'll do well to get in the top nine again and the FA cup final.

Some people don't live in the real world.

It's good to hear that the Chairman has high ambitions though... with him in charge maybe we will get into the top four, albeit with all the moaning morons in tow.

I saw Campbells comments in the news and finally we have someone talking sense.
Yes, this is the best season most of us have ever known.
Yes, we are in the FA cup final.
However with the quality and experience of the players in our squad we should not be happy to settle for 8th in the league and failure on Saturday to win, (and I have seen little evidence in the last 2 months to suggest we are capable of raising our game) will, I beleive make this an unacceptable season.
If we did not have the likes of England Trio James, johnson, Defoe, along with champions league players such as Campbell, Diarra, Kanu, not to metion Kranjcar, Muntari, Distin...... then this would be a great achievement, but we do have them so should expect better.
