Harry: Sort it out or we'll get torn to shreds

HARRY REDKNAPP warned Pompey they face an Old Trafford pasting if they repeat their Everton defensive nightmare.
The fuming Blues boss will be taking his back four to school this week to rid them of the errors which derailed their European charge at Goodison Park.

He slammed their 'dreadful' defending in Sunday's 3-1 defeat and insisted all the goals should have been averted.

Redknapp pinpointed Sulley Muntari as the man who was at fault for Everton's killer second.

And he grimly insisted Manchester United would hand his men a hiding in Saturday's FA Cup quarter-final showdown unless they cut out the mistakes.

Redknapp said: 'The defending for the goals on Sunday was dreadful.

'With 20 minutes to go I couldn't see us losing. It was even stevens.

'Then Tim Cahill came with a free header because we didn't track him.

'It's no surprise he does that. We worked on it before the game.

'So for Sulley Muntari to track him halfway and then switch off was frustrating.

'We had a dreadful start, got back into the game and did that.

'We have to work on it because if we think that was tough just wait until Saturday. That's going to be even tougher.

'Everton are a strong team but United are on another level.'

Redknapp believed all three goals in Sunday's defeat should have been avoided.

It was an uncharacteristically poor afternoon from a defence who have been solid for the vast majority of the campaign.

Redknapp and his coaching staff will carry out a post mortem at their Eastleigh training base this week.

He knew any kind of lapses against the champions would prove to be fatal.

United possess one of the game's great exponents of finding space with late runs in Paul Scholes.

And in Wayne Rooney they have someone who will have to be marked from the deep-lying position, where he is so dangerous.

Then there is Carlos Tevez, the often unplayable Cristiano Ronaldo and the likes of Nani and Anderson.

Redknapp said: 'The defending was terrible for the first and third goals, too. Terrible.

'It's something we'll be working on this week.

'It's something we have to look at closely, that's for sure.

'Wayne Rooney likes to arrive late and so does Paul Scholes, but they are just world-class players.

'But United have them all over the pitch – and on the bench.'

We will be torn to shreds even if we play at the top of our game, so it will be damage limitation, that's not being defeatist just realistic. Utd are not just one class above they are more three/four classes above. Campbell is now past his best, far too slow in pace and reaction, he only plays because of who he is. Though I'm sure his presence off the pitch is huge around the club, I feel on the pitch it may be a season too far. We will be lucky to score once without Defoe given the resources we are left with and Harry's selection needs to be 100%... Diop on the right? need I say more.

On another note regarding Europe, I feel it is still too soon we are not equipped to cope with the extra games so unless Harry had a nice summer tresure chest and we made Europe I fear the league will suffer a great deal. Given it actually costs the club money playing in Europe I struggle to see the appeal. Also how many of us fans, realistically would be able to afford the time and money to attend games.

The defence was bad, most of the team was bad but it's still the managers responsibilty to get the team to get it right and he was bad. Stop blaming others HR and admit you are at fault.

Mr Pompey,

Drop Diop and Campbell!!!

I would like to see the team lineup. James, Johnson, Distin, Heridersson, Aubey (Pamarot if fit), Davis, Muntari, Diarra, Kranjkar, Utaka and Defoe. Back to 4-5-1 but with Utaka able to get to the by line and get balls on the deck into the box for Defoe, its where Defoe gets his goals!!

do something that will make the players fighting and drop some of them. we do have replacements on the bench and even in the reserves. we have hughesy, davis, aubey, nugent and mendes when fit, utaka. even some of the reserves like christophe, song'o, mvuemba and that new striker harry bought in janury - subotic. there are players available to shake things up and get the passion back inot the players and get them fighting for the cause.

Hold on a minute - Harry could not see us losing! Then blames the defence for three mistakes. Most of the writers on here have all said we were looking poor, especially midfield. Campbell & Kanu have been slated. So was Harry watching a different game? Too many players that Harry brought in are untouchable and won't be dropped. Squad rotation would help to keep all players on their toes and would have kept people like Matty Taylor happy. Surely Hughes & Davis must play against Man Utd & Nugent would be a better starter than Kanu.

Time to drop Campbell, too many times he looks lost for pace. Put Herman in the middle with Distin and use Aubey on the left. Campbell looks laboured. Sorry Sol but your legs have gone. We could do with Primus back but Hriedarsson will fill in a centre back. Away from home we need to go back to the 5 man midfield but without Diop. He's had a few shocking games!! Get Davis or Hughsie back in there.

WWWW... don't go there again. I am sure he takes some responsibility, this is a press story though.

Does anyone know if Distin is suspended for this game, as he got his 5th yellow at Goodison Park?

Hopefully Utd will have a really really tough game against Lyon tonight and have to rest some stars. I know they still have a wealth of stars in place, big game for Kanu and/or Baros. Not sure how we can do it, thinking it is going to be wonder goals and a wonder performance from James for any chance of success!

velo, they scrapped the 5 yellows and your banned for a game rule last week i think it was. so i believe distin is still available for selection.

randy,,,
your correct, they have scrapped the 5 yellows for the rest of the season, so Distin is available,,,
i agree with whats been said about a 4.5.1 formation, as we seem to play better that way and i'm sure Defoe would be able to work with it aswell

How will Pompey fare against Cardiff in the FA Cup final?
Pompey are too good for them. We will win at a canter!
It will be tight, but Harry's boys will just nick it.
Cardiff will break Blues hearts and destroy the Cup dream!
It will go to the lottery of penalties and then it's anybody's guess!
