Murphy seals win for Fulham

POMPEY warmed up for their trip to Wembley next week with a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Premier League survivors Fulham
The Londoners required a win at Fratton Park to beat the drop down to the Championship and that's what they did in dramatic fashion - Danny Murphy's header on 74 minutes enough to secure their Premier League status.

Little separated the teams on a sunny afternoon on the south coast.

Ashdown had to save early in the first after to deny Simon Davies the opening goal on four minutes, but Pompey, too, could easily have broken the deaadlock in the early exchanges as Kranjcar and Kanu did their best to find the back of the net.

Utaka then tried to get in on the act as he beat Konchesky down the right wing, but he drilled his effort wide of the far post.

Before half-time,Johnson's storming run out of defence set up Defoe, but he could only find the Milton end.

In the second half, both teams tried their luck in front of goal.

Kranjcar saw his shoy immediately after the restart dealt easily by Keller, while Murphy's head on 54 munutes laacked power.

The game flowed from end to end, but it was Fulham who ended up celebrating most at the final whistle.

Bullard's in-swinging cross was met perfectly by Murphy and he headed home from close range to give the visitors the win they so desperately desired.

The performance was better, the finish just wasnt there and to I think Fulham wanted it more. Another game we should have got more from and didn't. Baros needs to go, and fast...theres a reason the game is called football and handballs are counted as fouls, he doesn't seem to know this yet though.

bit concerned where the goals will come from to be honest. and also we fragile at set pieces, free headers in the box again.
i noticed cardiff lost form because of the final ...not. free scoring.

lets hope it all gets sorted, i know people will say 8th in league and runners up in fa cup still makes a good season but its what could have been and how we threw it away that will be the headlines.

heres hoping we put in a good display and win well

Another disappointing performance. No real width, no attack, no options. I hope I never witness Utaka in a Pompey shirt again. He is about the most frustrating player I have ever seen. So much potential and yet so little real desire and application. The same can be said for Muntari, who equally, I hope I do not see play for the Blues again, though sady I think there is little chance of that. Baros is on his way back to Lyons, obviously. We need two strikers and two fast tricky, hard working wingers. I personally think the Blues have overachieved this season. If you add up the points that James has saved us, we could well have been in Fulham's position today. Come on Rednapp, get it right for next season. Stop telling us how well we have done and what the club was like four years ago. You have spent millions of the owner's money, some of it very badly in my opinion, so there is absolutely no need for complacency.

Yet another poor performance. We never even looked remotely threatening. As a team we lack any real creativity. Four straight defeats is simply unacceptable. No matter what spin Harry puts on it, it's not good enough. There are too many players just going through the motions, nobody seems to be playing with any real passion and desire. I really hope we win the cup final, but if we do it'll just paper over the cracks which have been all too evident since the turn of the year. Sort it out Harry, we're fed up of the excuses.

On a slightly different note, with Reading relegated today, I'd like to see us make a move for Kevin Doyle. I think he's a quality player and would certainly be cheaper than a 15m Peter Crouch.

Come on people... Lets just be positive from now on.... Who cares about the last few weeks... As long as we perform on saturday all is good... What good can it do... Lets all be positive and enjoy the fact that the season is over for all Premier League clubs apart from Man Utd, Chelsea and PORTSMOUTH!!!!

Play up Pompey!!!

Next person to say a bad word loves dave ranscombe!

It's all a question of maximising what you have, players, talent, ability, passion, desire, objectives. And I think Portsmouth have fallen away very badly recently, and not played to them maximum potential. I doubt whether Ferguson would stand a Rooney or Ronaldo having a couple of bad games, because of what they had achieved prior to. It's about work ethic and doing your damnest every week to play at 100 percent plus. Anything less is a sad indictment on the team and an insult to the supporters who pay the players' wages.

The African players we have go away to the Africa Cup of Nations just after the New Year and we lose a bit of form - maybe that's not unexpected.

They come back, our form picks up again and we starting racking up the points again - again, maybe not unexpected.

We then get through to the FA Cup final for the first time in 69 years and everyone gets a little bit edgy and maybe a bit worried about picking up an injury. We consequently go off the boil for the last three or four Premier League games, which is maybe understandable too.

What is there to criticise? Which drugs have you lot been taking or have we been following a different team?

We've done great this season and people should acknowledge it.

The League season hasn't ended on a high, but looking at the overall picture, should anyone really be expecting anything more??
Be honest peeps, we're a good top 10 side - exactly where we finished, and a side capable of winning any game on our day - thusly through to the FA cup final.

I, more than most, believe the players are paid to play and there should be no excuses for laclustre displays and poor attitude/ commitment. However this happens in football for whatever reasons.

Lets get behind the team in Wembley bring the cup home, and, add a couple of forwards, widemen and one defensive signing to look forward to future of PFC!
