Tony Oakey has promised to drag Nathan Cleverly into boxing hell.
The Leigh Park Warrior clashes with the unbeaten Welshman tomorrow night in Liverpool.

The Commonwealth light-heavyweight title is at stake in the Sky-televised match-up at the Everton Park Sports Centre.

It will be Cleverly's first foray into championship territory – and Oakey has vowed to make that a harrowing experience for him.

The 21-year-old has quickly developed a 12-0 record and is being groomed for stardom after emerging from the Enzo Calzaghe stable.

But he has never been further than eight rounds since turning pro three years ago.

Oakey heaped praise on his rival and explained he has been impressed with what he has seen of him.

He warned Cleverly, though, boxing at the incessant pace he sets for 12 rounds will be unlike anything he has experienced before.

And that is going to make for a nightmare experience for him tomorrow. Oakey said: 'Cleverly looks a good boxer.

'He's a good upright fighter who has decent strength, fitness and is a decent mover.

'I think our styles are going to make for a good fight.

'He may be unbeaten and well-schooled, but he has never faced anyone like me before.

'He has never had someone in his face with my strength and stamina.

When I'm on him non-stop tomorrow he is not going to know what has hit him.

'It's not going to be a pretty experience for him, but then we aren't playing chess.

'He has never been further than eight rounds before.

'That is the stage of the fight when I come into my own.

'The training is all done and the work has all been put in as ever.

'Now it's just waiting to get into the ring and doing what I need to do to get that belt around my waist at the end of the fight.'

Oakey rubbished Cleverly's claims he's the new top domestic light-heavyweight.

He laughed off that suggestion and insisted he remains the top British talent at 12st 7lb, even after defeat to Dean Francis.

Oakey said: 'Cleverly thinks he's the best light-heavyweight in the country – well we'll see about that tomorrow.

'Francis has the title but I know I had the better of him when we met.

'That's the fight I want, but I'm not sure if he'll ever want to face me again after what I did to him before I got caught.

'That's for another day, though. First I'll see to business with Cleverly.'

Oakey's Commonwealth light-heavyweight title clash with Cleverly will be screened live on Sky Sports 2 tomorrow from 10pm.

We Can Do It

Today's Vote

Is Tony Adams right to make changes to the Pompey side who beat Blackburn?
Adams should stick to the side that earned him his first win at Fratton Park
He should only change things around if there are injuries
If Campbell and Kranjcar are fit they should start
Davis deserves a starting role after his heroics against Blackburn
With a heavy fixture schedule coming up, changes are needed
