Pompey boss Harry Redknapp confirmed he was keen on bringing Lens defender Nadir Belhadj to Pompey.
The Pompey boss told The News earlier in the summer chief scout Ian Broomfield had recommended the Algerian to him.

Belhadj can play at left-back or as a left-sided wing-back.
Redknapp stated he would only be looking to bring the player in on loan and would not be able to stump up a fee for his services.

The Blues manager also underlined the need for an injection of pace down the right flank.

A lack of natural width down that side was again noticeable as Pompey were thumped by Chelsea yesterday.

Redknapp said: 'I'd like to get the Algerian, but don't know if I can.
'It would only be a loan. That's what we're looking for.

'We have a problem on the right, too.

'We need someone with pace. We have no one there like that at the moment.'

Why on earth doesn't Harry give Glen Johnson a go down the right of midfield, he seems to spend most of his time there anyway, so at least that way he could put a right back in the position(Lauren or Linvoy)who might just stay there.

I wouldn't take too much notice of internet coverage of a player's ability. I remember watching Utaka on U-Tube when he was about to join Pompey. He looked classy as well !!

Guy Whittingham's right boot,

Rumour has it that if Redknapp can get this fella, he will revert to 3-5-2 with Belhadj and Johnson as wing backs and Diarra, Diop and Kranjcar in the middle and Campbell, Distin and Kaboul at the back. Has to be better than 4-4-2 with Diop wide right and Kranjcar nether attacking or defending on the left

Guy,
I like the idea of that line-up, I'd just be a bit worried about Johnson getting back again - not speed or fitness wise but just concentration-wise. I think Blarmy has the right idea and it's something I've wanted to see for the 2nd half of last season.

We Can Do It

Today's Vote

Is Tony Adams right to make changes to the Pompey side who beat Blackburn?
Adams should stick to the side that earned him his first win at Fratton Park
He should only change things around if there are injuries
If Campbell and Kranjcar are fit they should start
Davis deserves a starting role after his heroics against Blackburn
With a heavy fixture schedule coming up, changes are needed
