THE SEASON is drawing to a close – and that means it's nearly time to hand out The News/Sports Mail Player of the Season Trophy.
It's been a superb season for the Blues, which is sure to make your decision all the more tricky this time.

Pompey legends like Noel Blake, Mark Hateley, Guy Whittingham and Steve Claridge are among the famous names already etched on the trophy.

More recently Linvoy Primus, Gary O'Neil and – last year – David James – have taken the honours.
Now the trophy is up for grabs once again.

So who will you vote for as the top man of 2007-08?

James is certain to be in the running after another outstanding campaign, as will his defensive team-mate Sol Campbell.

Niko Kranjcar has been a key part of the team, with his flair in midfield, while Sylvain Distin has proved to be a great addition.

Maybe new boys Jermain Defoe or Lassana Diarra will get your vote – or maybe old boy Benjani?

Everyone who votes will be entered into a draw, the prize for which is a pair of tickets for Pompey's first game of next season.

The deadline is Thursday, May 8, and the trophy will be presented on the pitch before the final game of the season against Fulham on May 11.

Despite the recent couple of blips I think James is still No. 1 for me - he's probably gotten us ten points this season.

Distin a close 2nd.

Distin has been in a class of his own, G.Johnson being a close second but def the most improved player.

James for me in a season that probably will not be bettered. There have been some great performances by others too, but I felt distinctly uncomfortable with him out last Sunday.

James purely on the basis that without his saves we would not be at Wembley
