Tony Adams will wait until the end of the season before making a decision on Sol Campbell's future.
The Pompey boss has revealed he will not be rushed into making a snap judgement on his out-of-contract players.

Campbell is one of 15 men whose deal is up at the end of the campaign.
The 34-year-old will be free to speak to other clubs outside of England in January.

Adams will consult Campbell, who is one of the club's top earners, before deciding the way forward.

But he stated he is relaxed about the situation and won't, like any other player, stand in his way if he wants to leave.

Adams said: 'Sol's his own man. He will do what he wants to do, and that's okay with me.

'It's what Sol Campbell wants to do.

'He's been around the block and is a great pro.

'I'm leaving it up to him.

'He's been fantastic for the club, but we'll see.

'I respect his judgement and he'll make the call.

'He's in the best position to tell us what to do.

'I'm relaxed about it because I respect him.

'I'm not going to decide about the players before the end of the season.

'I've always said I won't get in anybody's way.'

Adams feels it's up to the players whose deals are up next summer to prove they deserve a new offer.

He said: 'There's six or seven months yet. That gives me a chance to have a good look at them.

'I think the players should work hard to get a new contract.

'They all have to want to play for Portsmouth. If someone has a magnificent offer down the road then they can go.

'I'd like to keep a few of them, though. We have some good players.'

I'm impressed. Three days worth of articles on a non-story about contracts being up.

I am however disappointed that we don't know who got to drive the Robin Reliant this week.

Hardly a non-story that half the squad could leave in the summer is it!
Even the guy who captained us at Wembley could be on his way.
Dunno about you Clonestar but to me that is a little interesting.

I fully agree Gunter. There are too many people on these forums who seem to want to knock Sasha, Storrie, Redknap, the council, or even the News journalists at every opportunity. What do these people expect the News to do if there is little happening at Fratton Park, leave the back page blank? I have found it interesting to know (a) how many of the players are out of contract at the end of the season, and (b) what Adams intends to do about it.

The important points are the beginning and the end anything in between isn't important so yes tell us who is out of contract but don't dwell on it until they sign again or leave.

You're are right, this was an interesting story 3 days ago, and I found myself fascinated by what contracts will be up. The next day I was quite interested to read that Sol's contract would still be up at the end of the year, having been told that the day before. Today, the story tells us the info from the last two days and then "sets a date" for a decision as a vague some point in the future.

However, I do concede Bagman's point that on a slow news day, they have to fill the papers with something, so re-running a story with a slightly different twist may well be the best way to acheive the required column inches.

For the record, I have never slagged off the club, Storrie or Sasha and I think they come in for a lot of "damned if they do" type reaction from people on here. If they say there's no truth in stories, they are lies, and if they say nothing they don't communicate. I think they've both shown excellent committment to the club, and have made us a much more secure business than we have been for a long time. The only time I've ever had a word against Harry was to question his policy of handling youth and fringe players, rather than just nurturing his first team and older egos, which I will always standby. However, the man has been an excellent manager for us, got/kept us in the Premiership and won us the FA Cup. How can you not love that?

I hope that clarifies my position for you all.

And I really would like to know who's driven the Robin Reliant this week! :)

Can Nadir Ciftci go on to really establish himself at Pompey?
Absolutely, he's a star of the future
Maybe, but he's got a long way to go
He needs a loan spell away, then we'll see how good he is
No chance, he'll fade away
