Portsmouth remain ahead of Spurs as the Peter Crouch race hots up.
Juande Ramos has apparently clambered on to the trail of the in-demand Liverpool striker and is reportedly prepared to use Robbie Keane as a makeweight.

Keane, a life-long Reds fan, would jump at the chance of a switch, damaging Pompey's hopes of bringing the England man back to Fratton Park.

However, it is understood Spurs have no intention of letting the Republic of Ireland international leave.

Ramos instead prefers to let mis-fit Darren Bent and wantaway Dimitar Berbatov go – and both are poised for White Hart Lane exits before the start of the season.

The sale of follow striker Keane is not an option, clearing the way for Pompey to pursue Crouch.

I sometimes wonder what is best! Is it better to be an optimist, to then be disappointed or be a pessimist and be pleasantly surprised?
I note that no Pompey source is quoted in this report.

Once Crouchy has signed, it won't matter one iota about all the specualation.

So come on Pompey, get it sorted. We are all fed up waiting.

On another site someone very accurately compared Liverpool's situation to being in a house chain. Liverpool want Barry but can't afford him until they sell Alonso or Crouch. Villa want £17m for Barry but Liverpool bid £13m. Liverpool want £15m for Crouch but Pompey bid £9m etc, etc
