SOL CAMPBELL issued a stark warning to Pompey by declaring: We've got one game to save our season.
The Blues skipper sat out yesterday's home defeat to Fulham with a hamstring problem, but remains confident he will be fit to lead the troops into battle at Wembley on Saturday.

But although Pompey recorded their highest-ever Premier League finish of eighth, the former England star is concerned by the Blues' run of four straight losses.

And he urged his team-mates not to see their efforts over a fine season wasted – claiming getting into Europe is the main incentive when they face Cardiff.

Campbell said: 'I think we've got to stop talking about over-achievement.

'Too many guys here have been at the top and it's time to move away from those kind of comments.

'The players are here and we need to get away from the kind of mentality where we should feel pleased about finishing eighth.

'We've really got to knuckle down, train right and make sure everybody is focused and up for the game on Saturday.

'We want to get into Europe and that is now our only chance.
'Forget the FA Cup – we've got to train right, win the game and get ourselves into Europe.

'Winning the FA Cup would be fantastic, but the main objective is Europe.

'It's difficult when you lose games but we have really got to concentrate on the weekend now and make sure we get our preparation right and our attitude right.'

Campbell was left out of the side as a precaution after a minor hamstring complaint, but he has allayed any fears he will not be fit for Wembley.

He said: 'It was just a little bit of tightness, so it should be okay.
'It's not a major thing. I want to play every game, but we had to look at the bigger picture.

'Next week is a massive game for us and we need to have everybody fit for that.'

Campbell hinted Pompey would need to improve their work-rate when they face Cardiff this weekend, but also insists the recent winless run will not upset the plans.

He said: 'We've got to run, we've got to chase and do everything right up and down the pitch.

'We will respect the opponents because anyone can win this game, but from there you have got to start playing your football.

'We're not happy because of the results, but we've got to settle down and keep to the plan.

'We've lost four games, but in some of those games we've played really well and the odd goal has let us down.

'So it will be a normal week but we all know it is a massive game at the end of it.'

in all the 48 years then this has to be by far the best pompey side you have seen, The best keeper in the country one of the most solid back fours players as good as diarra in midfield and the most natural goalscorer england has. to not finsh in the top 6 is a massive failure not winning the cup final would be a disaster, which even if we win the cup that doesnt make up for the last 6 such dire performances

thats the whole point johnny boy back in the good old days pompey sides were very very poor, winning a corner was worth cheering but was enjoyable because of the atmosphere going to watch pompey home and away. Now we have a very very good side but its no fun anymore the players dont try like anymore they couldnt care less about the club. Paying £600+ for a season ticket paying these players wages we have every right to let them know when they dont perform and criticise when its not good enough. The team we have is capable of beating anyone as proved at old trafford we should have beat liverpool at home and really gave chelsea and arsenal a game then we cannot beat fulham, man city , boro amongst others . john boy you have not got a clue

Look if you are that unhappy why spend £600 on a season ticket, if you want the good old days back, the lot up the road are making a good go at being the old Pompey. and if they dont tick all the boxes how about trying punching in google M&S clubs in your area that might work

We Can Do It

Today's Vote

Is Tony Adams right to make changes to the Pompey side who beat Blackburn?
Adams should stick to the side that earned him his first win at Fratton Park
He should only change things around if there are injuries
If Campbell and Kranjcar are fit they should start
Davis deserves a starting role after his heroics against Blackburn
With a heavy fixture schedule coming up, changes are needed
