Peter Storrie has called for transfer calm and insisted: The big signings are coming.
Pompey have spent the summer being linked with a host of top names including Peter Crouch, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Younes Kaboul, Richard Dunne and Eidur Gudjohnsen.

Yet so far, only out-of-contract Glen Little and on-loan Ben Sahar have arrived at Fratton Park.

The apparent lack of transfer activity has sparked concern among some quarters – with pre-season training starting on Tuesday.

Storrie, though, remains confident the additional top-quality signings Harry Redknapp craves will materialise.

The Blues are believed to be ready to up their bid to land Crouch from Liverpool.

And after a Premier League transfer lull which has seen hardly any deals completed so far this summer, Pompey chief executive urged fans not to panic over other signings.

He said: 'I can assure supporters we will strengthen the squad with quality signings over the summer – it's just at the moment it is a naturally quiet time.

'Everyone is away having their holidays and that goes for players, managers and, of course, chief executives.

'This is also a summer in which there's been a tournament taking place, which also delays matters.

'There is no need to panic – not much will happen until the middle of July.

'We know what we want. It has been discussed between myself and Harry, and it's now about waiting for those targets to become available and taking it from there.

'Of course more players will be arriving. But we have no deadlines to sign anyone.

'We know what we want and we are focusing on them. There's definitely no need to panic.'

Harry Redknapp has made no secret of his desire to strengthen the striking department with Crouch remaining the prime target, despite having a £9m bid turned down.

He is also keen on Kaboul, the Spurs defender also fancying the switch to the south coast, although both clubs have yet to agree a fee.

Pompey are after a left- back with Nicky Shorey and Wayne Bridge the names cropping up.

And Wright-Phillips continues to be linked, with Redknapp keen to turn his attentions on the Chelsea winger after long-time target Jonas Gutierrez signed for Newcastle.

Meanwhile, Kanu has reiterated his desire to sign a new deal at Pompey.

He said: 'There are just some little details that we need to discuss. But I will sign the contract.'

It was pretty much the same last summer (and every summer for that matter), the bulk of the transfer activity happened towards the latter part of the summer break. There was the same panic then, but when we tied up the deals for Utaka and Nugent on the same day, it soon died down. All the clubs have their targets, but Harry and Peter tend to be secretive about some and more blatant about others; even if all the players that are currently being speculated about - Crouch, Wright-Phillips, Shorey and Kaboul - decide to go elsewhere, I have no doubt that they'll have a decent Plan B to fall back on.

Again, last year we all knew that Muntari was coming but there was hardly anything mentioned about Utaka and Johnson until the deals were done and dusted. I expect more of the same to be perfectly honest, but just looking at the list of targets this summer makes me confident that we are chasing some pretty big fish - so good times ahead methinks.

Guys I think we could be closer to signing Crouch, I’ve just seen Crouch, Redknapp and Kanu all running round the Mountbatten centre, Harry was in the lead crouch not far behind and yep you guessed it kanu was last, apparently crouch and redkapp had both lapped him twice.

agree with the rumour king, get these deals sorted Storrie otherwise we are gonna lose are targets and Sacha has said he wants to be challenging the top four. So get a move on, all the big guns are starting to buy their targets. why arent we??

Come neil, u must shoulder part of the blame for this!

If clubs make their bids early on then usually they'll end up payin over the odds, its only natural for tranfers like the crouch deal to take a while considering the massive galf in ours+their valuation...

I so hope we can get a good quality winger in now like swp cos iv got a horrible feeling the spidermans guna be another on the long line of transfer targets that have gone elsewhere because we wouldn't pay the extra million! Ashton, Martins, anelka etc

RE BRANDS: maybe thats got something to do with the fact we're looking to buy from the top4, and they wana look at replacements before selling the likes of swp+crouch...?

Rumour King - so Man City are spending big to challenge for major titles, then? Well Pompey actually WON a major title last season, so what does that tell you? I have faith in Storrie & Harry to deliver great players and great surprise signings over the next month. You can't fault their work over the last few years. The constant Storrie-bashing on here is petty, mean-spirited and completely out of all proportion. We're in the strongest position we've been for 60 years. Get a grip, you moaners.

We Can Do It

Today's Vote

Is Tony Adams right to make changes to the Pompey side who beat Blackburn?
Adams should stick to the side that earned him his first win at Fratton Park
He should only change things around if there are injuries
If Campbell and Kranjcar are fit they should start
Davis deserves a starting role after his heroics against Blackburn
With a heavy fixture schedule coming up, changes are needed
