The departure of Paul Hart has not come as a big surprise to many of the club's loyal supporters.
After a dreadful first three months to the Premier League season – in which they have won just two games – the club finds themselves rock bottom of the table and staring at the possibility of relegation to the Championship.

Next up they face champions Manchester United at Fratton Park on Saturday.

According to the club's fans, the team's poor start to the season meant the manager had to go.

Nigel Tressider, chairman of the official Portsmouth FC supporters club, told The News he agreed with the club's decision to sack Hart.

'It was always going to happen, we were just waiting to hear it,' he said.

'Now it's time for the club to move forward. We have got a tough month ahead in terms of fixtures so the new manager needs to be in place as soon as possible.

'Avram Grant would do a good job. They should have got rid of him (Hart) earlier but it's good they have done it before January so the new guy will have the chance to get his own players in.'

Barry Dewing, chairman of Pompey Independent Supporters Association, said he thinks it's time the club become more open with the fans.

He said: 'Nobody knows what's really happening at the football club. Who will actually be deciding who the new manager is?

'There's lots of questions supporters have that need to be answered by the club.

'Even by Pompey's standards, today has been quite a day.'

Well, a move that is at least 6 games too late (you could very well argue 6 months), but we at least now have a very slim outside chance of survival.

Let's now get Belhadj and Utaka in the team as soon as they are available and actually cause other teams trouble with pace and a genuine goal threat - a concept completely alien to Hart.

I know this point has nothing to do with the issue at hand but why do people keep going an about Utaka?

He's been with us for about three years and hasn't contributed anything apart from quite a good goal against Bolton when he first joined and the assist for Kanu in the Cup Final.

Hope he is gone in January.

Sven for Manager!!

Because he has genuine ability, pace and he can finish.

Clearly he's bone idle, but we are not in a position to ignore a quality player.

Played up front he will score goals and cause trouble for opposition defences as has been seen in the past.

I'm sorry to see Mr Hart leave. I know we have had an awful season thus far but we have played some decent football at times and had some genuinely unlucky results, ie. Everton when we should have had a hatfull of goals. Regardless, the results haven't come so he had to go, the board had no choice. I would like to wish him well, he has always conducted himself impeccably, unlike his 2 predecessors, and he has maintained his professionalism throughout the most torrid of periods and can move on with his head held high.

Avram for the job.

PLAY UP POMPEY!
