It was time to honour the great and the good as Stamshaw Lake Angling Club held their annual presentation night.
Both sea and the newly-founded coarse section championship trophies were up for grabs, with club president John Moorhead called upon to present the silverware.
The 2010 club champion for the sea section was John Goulty Snr, who took the honours over his son, also called John, to receive the prestigious shield.
The outside harbour champion was Ernie Davey, with 11-year-old Billy Blades taking the top junior trophy and Marilyn Denyer the ladies’ trophy.
Allan Watson, who sadly died last year, had a new competition named in his honour: the Allan Watson Memorial Shield.
Allan was a popular and respected member of both the angling club and the local fishing community, as well as writer of The Reel Thing for The News.
The shield named in his honour was awarded to the captor of the heaviest cod which, fittingly, went to Allan’s son-in-law Nick Wallis.
Nick was presented his award by his wife – and Allan’s daughter – Donna.
