David Blackman landed the MBK Leisures junior open on Saturday.

The Hambledon talent reeled in the prize at Coloured Ponds with a match weight of 17lb 1oz.

Blackman’s haul saw him top the overall standings – as well as the category for 13 to 16-year-old anglers.

Second overall was Ryan Hinkley, who won the under-nines age group with his catch of 8lb 8oz.

Max Spiers, also of Petersfield, shared third overall with the nine to 12-year-old age group winner Jessica Carter as they both tipped the scales at 7lb 6oz.

The next junior open is at the same venue on Saturday, October 5. Draw midday, fishing from 1pm.

Elsewhere, Drummond White won the inaugural Lorraine Talbot Memorial Championship, run by Portsmouth & District Angling Society.

White, Talbot’s eldest brother, caught 23lb of roach and skimmers at Sinah Lake on Hayling Island.

More than £250 was raised for charity as the victor’s waggler tactics, fished at 30 yards with maggot on corn saw him presented with the trophy by Len Talbot.

Derek Pickard was second with 21lb 3oz of skimmers.

Meanwhile, Portchester Sailing Club’s angling section have teamed up with Hansfords of Fareham to hold the Portchester Open Sea Angling Championship on Sunday, October 6.

There is a massive £500 first prize for the heaviest bag, with second and third places attracting £250 and £100 respectively.

Entry is £8, with £2 optional pool split for the heaviest flat fish and round fish.

Fishing from 10.30am. Call 01329 280213 to book.
