Fountain Lake AC member Mark Buckner managed first place in his club’s latest boat match with a fine 22lb 12oz blonde ray.
Fishing aboard Rob Hickins’ charter boat Sea-Juicer, which operates from the club, Buckner’s personal best ray took a liking to his mackerel strip bait on a flowing 20lb trace while fishing a shallow bank off Selsey in only 20ft of water.
The fish put up a tremendous 15-minute battle before being boated.
Hickins’ Sea-Juicer took the top three places in the match with catches that included blonde rays, undulate rays, thornback rays, smoothhounds and bream.
All fish that were landed on this trip were weighed and returned alive.
