IT WAS mission accomplished for Russ Warwick as he landed a new personal best cod.
His previous best of 12lb was caught at Hayling Island last year.
And after a long, unsuccessful battle to beat that marker, Warwick heard on the grapevine that there had been a constant stream of whoppers reeled in from Chesil Beach in Dorset.
After collecting his welsh black lugworm bait, he made the trip down to the Weymouth end of the 14-mile beach.
When he arrived at the beach, Warwick had to yomp for nearly an hour over the soft shingle to reach the hot spot.
After setting up camp, Warwick was strait in to fish with a steady run of dogfish and whiting coming to his offerings.
Then came the big prize, a 14lb 4oz belter.
n Round five of the Avon Valley was fished on the Kennet and Avon canal at Pewesy Wilcot to Bristows.
The canal fished hard due to clearing water and sunshine.
Anthony Flint (Tubertini) emerged victorious with 6-2-8 of roach on punch and bloodworm.
Second was John Brownlie (Crowsports) who caught roach on punch and bloodworm at six meters.
