Opening night for the Lakeside 5k Series

James Baker powered clear of his rivals to win the opening race of the Lakeside 5k Series.

The Chichester Runners athlete, shrugged off a cold, as he won in damp conditions, with a time of 16min 04sec.

Baker was third in the five-race series at 1000 Lakeside, North Harbour last summer.

But he has set down a strong challenge to his rivals with his success on Wednesday.

His Chichester Runners club-mate Peter Concannon finished second (16.09) and Eastleigh’s Tom Stevens crossed the line third (16.11).

City of Portsmouth youngster Jacob O’Hara was first under-15 and finished sixth overall with a brilliant 16.31 clocking.

Aldershot’s Lauren Hall was first lady, finishing in 18.04.

The second race takes place on Wednesday, May 27.
