AFTER two races and two different winners it is time for the third edition of the Lakeside 5k Series tonight (7.15pm).

Chichester’s Chris Zablocki took the opening event.

He also won the Gosport Golden Mile recently but didn’t take part in the second race of the series jointly hosted by City of Portsmouth and Havant at Lakeside North Harbour, Western Road.

Lachlan Wellington won last month with a good time of 15.38.

The 14-year-old City of Portsmouth athlete kicked clear of defending series champion Peter Concannon who had to be content with second place (15.42).

Zablocki’s training partner James Baker finished third (15.59).

Southampton’s Ellie Monks finished first lady in race two with a quick time of 17.19.

City duo Emma Montiel (18.06) and youngster Nicole Ainsworth (18.17) finished second and third.

Each athlete will have their three best races count towards the series with two more events to follow after tonight.

Monks is looking in a strong position with wins in the two races so far.

She won the first event in April in 17.44 with Stubbington’s Jen Elkins second in 18.11.

With second and third place finishes under his belt so far Concannon just holds the edge in the men’s series.

Wellington has first and fifth place finishes to his name and Baker has third and fourth places.

The final two races of the series take place on Wednesday, July 27 and Wednesday, August 24.

As well as prizes for overall and age groups, the Alexandra Sports Inter-Club challenge offers prizes for the top eight clubs.

Late entries are taken on the day of each race between 6pm and 7pm.
