THE fantastic Portsmouth Coastal Waterside Marathon provided a perfect occasion on Sunday.
Organiser Rob Piggott even managed to fix up ideal weather on the seafront.
In total 1,014 runners completed the scenic but challenging race.
Winner Jonathan Albon smashed the course record of 2hr 40min 46sec set in 2010 with his time of 2.31.14.
Second-placed runner Jack Oates was also inside the previous best with 2.36.07.
Sarah Hill, of Farnham Runners, finished in 3.01.14, just 13 seconds off her course record set in 2011.
The festive occasion saw some superb fancy dress costumes on show, with great encouragement and support from marshals and helpers.
Organiser Rob Piggott was thrilled with the success of the marathon again.
He said: ‘It was a brilliant day, everyone rose to the occasion.
‘This is now one of the really special events on the calendar. People look forward to it.
‘We had special bling for it and Low Tide ale from Southsea Castle, as well as the piper to lead everyone to the start.
‘Now we’re looking forward to some big events next year.’
