Wellington wins another excellent Lakeside 5k race

IT WAS another great night for City of Portsmouth athletes in the Lakeside 5k.

Lachlan Wellington won for the third time as nobody was able to stick with him despite some fast competition.

The 15-year-old City star has now won the past three races in the summer series.

This was his quickest yet despite a warm evening which made it tough as he managed to finished with a superb time of 15min 26sec.

Winchester’s Toby Cooke crossed the line second (15.29)

Defending series champion Pete Concannon, of Chichester, managed third place (15.57).

Victory’s Zack Lahlal put in a good performance on his return to road racing and was happy with his time of 16.09.

Wellington has been in dominant form recently and came into the event off the back of a 4.24 mile in Oxford.

He now looks to have wrapped up the senior series title as well as the under-15 crown in what has been a fantastic effort.

Jen Elkins, who runs for Southampton, finished first lady in 18.14.

She managed to hold off a strong challenge from City of Portsmouth’s Emma Montiel (18.17).

Elkins has been running well in the Bayside 5k Summer Series as well as the Lakeside 5k races this summer.

Montiel enjoyed the challenge and chased hard.

The fifth and final race of the Lakeside 5k Series takes place on Wednesday, August 24 (7.15pm).

The series is held at Lakeside North Harbour.
