Cowplain are licking their wounds after suffering defeat to reigning champions Banister Park Gold in the Palmerston Cup.

The newcomers paid for a slow start as they struggled with the pace of the carpet.

And by the time they recovered, the Gold side were well on their way to an 80-36 triumph.

Cowplain’s George Abrahams could not prevent his rink going down 31-8.

Trevor Kelly’s men fared better but still went down 27-14, while John Spirit skipped the third rink in a 22-14 defeat.

In the other rearranged game on Saturday, Banister Park Blue beat Atherley Incorrigibles 67-35.

On Sunday, two pool B games took place – as Gold beat Atherley Blue 55-42.

In the other match, Rowner A lost 64-37 to Lockswood.

Rowner had led 16-14 after six ends but Lockswood soon found their rhythm.

Six ends later they were in control at 42-20 and never looked back.

Lockswood’s Pete Wilkinson skipped a 23-7 win over Barry Roberts.

Harry Bryant powered to a 27-11 win over the Rowner rink of Phil Pinder.

And Adrian Dadd (Lockswood) and Bill Ross (Rowner) shared a ding-dong battle which ended 19-14.

n In the Victory Monday Ladies’ Four League, Pink Ladies (Carla Woolvin, Pat Macrae, Cheryl Mountford and Tara Clark) recorded their first win of the season – a 10-7 verdict over Erica (Trish Hampson).

Daisy (Kath Patrick) overcame Hyacinth (Rosemary Bailey) by nine.

Lupins (Sue Jackson) – after scoring seven shots in the first two ends – beat Freesia (Marie Barber) 11-8.

Buttercups (Marion Wilcockson) were far too strong for Aster (Jo Phipps) as they won 30-3.

Elsewhere, Victory Ladies beat the Isle of Wight 54-40 to win the Mason Cup.

Hosts Liz Compton, Marion Wilcockson, Margaret Moffat and Kath Patrick won 30-18 in the national over-60 double rink battle.

And the away rink of Rose Rogers, Min Wright, Gloria Tardivel and Rosemary Bailey sealed a 24-22 success.
