MEMBERS of a bowling club celebrated their new season at a special event held to mark its opening.

Fareham Bowling Club, in Leigh Road, invited mayor of Fareham David Norris and his wife and mayoress Pamela to make the first throw.

Membership secretary Bob Alger said: ‘It was a fantastic day. ‘The weather was perfect and the green was lovely – we couldn’t have asked for better.’

After the mayor opened the green, around 70 members enjoyed cheese and wine, followed by a spoon drive where members are pitted against each other at random.

The club is holding free trials throughout April and May.
