Portsmouth players helped fire Hampshire to glory in the Wiltshire Farm Foods National Over-60
Inter-County Championship last weekend.

Stars from Victory and Fareham outfit Palmerston, along with bowlers from further afield at Chawton Park, Atherley and Banister Park joined forces to record a 129-121 win over Northamptonshire in the final.

Adrian Ash’s rink led the way as he skipped his team to a 28-14 triumph.

Barry Starks also tasted success – with an 11-shot victory in his battle – and the rinks led by Mick Barrett and Ian McKenzie were also celebrating at the end.

Steve Rice and team captain Charlie Bailey were defeated in their clashes.

Hampshire manager Adrian Snooks said: ‘We made a slow start and trailed for the first two hours or so.

‘But the team spirit was fantastic and when we scored a six on one rink – to take the lead for the first time – I knew we were going to win!’
