PURBROOK HEATH delivered bowls with a fancy new look on Saturday.

The club hosted their 12-hour sponsored short mat bowlathon to raise much-needed funds.

Plenty of fun was had with face painting, fancy dress bowling and lots of food served up.

More than £1,000 was raised towards the £90,000 total required to extend the clubhouse, to ensure it can meet the demand of visiting tours, for outdoor bowls, short mat commitments and club events.

The club is committed to promoting both outdoor and short mat bowls to encourage younger players to participate.

Short mat bowls is an ideal sport for elderly, disabled, and retired people.

It also provides a natural progression for bowlers who can no longer play outdoors.

Meanwhile, Purbrook Heath Bowls Club will host an open day on Sunday, April 26.

They are inviting anyone to go along and give both green bowls and short mat bowls a try – just bring a pair of flat soled shoes and they will provide the woods.
