Boxing coach Q Shillingford has today been awarded an MBE.

Shillingford, who coaches at the Heart of Portsmouth Boxing Academy, accepted the honour from the Queen in a ceremony at Windsor Castle.

He said the Queen congratulated him on his years of service to boxing and encouraging young people to get into sport.

Shillingford said: ‘To hear that come from the Queen is really an honour. It’s nice to be appreciated from the very top.’

David and Shirley Metherell, who set up the Elizabeth Foundation in Cosham to help deaf babies and preschool children, were also recognised with MBEs.
