Heart of Portsmouth has always been at the centre of its community.

It’s a philosophy which saw HOP boss Q Shillingford recognised as Sports Coach UK’s community coach of the year.

As part of that award, Shillingford became the first person to receive a £1,000 cheque from the Tim Lewis Trust in recognition of his efforts.

So where is the money going to go? Back into the club’s development, of course.

That means coaches will undertake first aid and child welfare courses to underline how local boxers are in safe hands.

Shillingford said: ‘When I was told there was £1,000 to spend I knew where I wanted it to go.

‘When parents drop off their children at the club they need to know they will be safe – they can be confident of that here.

‘Tim Lewis did a lot for Sports Coach UK and Sport England.

‘We’re the first beneficiaries off that trust.

‘And we are very pleased and proud of that fact.’
